The Nolan Company has re-engineered -- and now expanded -- our series of LOW-PROFILE hinged derails to meet the needs of those working in the more demanding railroad environment. Nolan’s model HD-3 and HD-4 are single -end hinged derails, and the new model HD-5 and HD-6 are double-end, bidirectional derails. All HD’s in the series have been redesigned to meet the railroad industry’s changing demands:

• Increases in the tonnage of locomotives and various types of railroad cars
• Increases in the trackage, speed and the number of cars in rail yards.

NEW DESIGN
Decreased deflection angle of the derail allows a longer "travel run," which increases the derail's functionality at higher speeds.

LOW PROFILE
At a 2-3/4" height above the top of the railhead, Nolan's derail ensures effective derailments of all types of rail cars, including mainline locomotives, whose locomotive pilots are cleared by the derail's low profile height.

NOTE: Nolan's new single-end hinged derails do not need to be bought in pairs, BUT you must specify left- or right-hand throw, as well as rail height, when purchasing. See the tables below.

NOTE: Target stands, derail staff assemblies and derail flags are sold separately from the derails to provide the most flexibility in choosing options.

• Model SS Target Stand: The optional model SS target stand used with models HDH and the HDH-140 comes with connecting rod, adjustable throw arm, and signal vane.
• Model HDF/HDHF Staff Assemblies: Both derails use optional staff assemblies on which to mount optional flags. The derail staff assemblies may be padlocked in either the up or down position. Padlock not included.
• Model BF-2 (red)/BF-9 (blue) Derail Flags: Derail flags are available to use with the staff assemblies. Go to Flags/Staffs to see more options for mounted flags.

HDHF Automatic Derail Staff Assembly
NOTE: Staff assemblies sold separately from flags.

Nolan's HDHF staff assembly consists of a connecting rod to the hinged derail and a mounting plate, which is lagged to the ties in the center of the track. A 62" high staff "flips up" automatically when the derail is thrown onto the rail. Use only with Nolan's HDH and HDH-140 derails.

Nolan portable derails are available in both double end (models PD-1 and PD-2) and single end (models PD-3R and PD-3L) designs. Lightweight, tough, easily and quickly installed, they provide protection for track crews anywhere. All models are cast from a durable ductile alloy. Wedge-type clamps secure the derail and flag to the rail head. The 48" (1219mm) high detachable, reflectorized "Derail" blue flag can be padlocked in position along with the wedge, to comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules. Available in both right hand and left hand designs, the PD-3 is an extra heavy duty unit, made to handle steel mill billet or ladle cars, as well as other exceptionally heavy cars.

Model SD Sliding Derails

Nolan's model SD sliding derail has a rugged double end design for permanent installation. Like all of Nolan's derails, the model SD is cast in a special ductile alloy. It adjusts automatically to most popular rail heights. An optional model LS heavy duty cast operating stand (sold separately) with an easy to use throw handle is available. The handle may be padlocked in either position. (Padlock not included.) The hole vane in red and the solid vane in white are bolted through the shaft to ensure alignment. NOTE: REQUIRES 2 TIES 11 FT. LONG.
